What Now?

"If this prologue goes on much longer, it will be 1972."

Anonymous wit, on the previous post.

So, yes, after making a big deal about reviving the site and changing direction, etc., I stop posting again. This is owed to a number of reasons, including lack of inspiration and work-related exhaustion, but primarily it's because Blogger has made it quite clear that this site is getting axed if there's one more music "infraction."

I mean, when they delete Keep the Coffee Coming, of all people, it's a sign that MP3 blogging is really not viable any more, on Blogger at least. It was a good run, really, and it lasted far longer than I expected.

So what now? I'm really not sure. I'd like to keep this place up, if solely as a repository for the old stuff, and I hope to keep doing some early '70s related stuff, possibly as Youtube links, or other things. For now, if you're desperate for my writing and dig Bowie in the slightest, check out my other site.

I'm sorry to see this going down. The historical material that you include is really fascinating and has caused me to do further reading on my own.

I am so sorry that you are ending Locust Street. It has always been, for me, a favorite place to stop and visit.

Thank you for mentioning Coffee's recent demise. Like you, I was done in by Blogger and thought about ending for good, but I just couldn't yet. If it happens again, I'll be done!

Thank you for all the wonderful postings combined with exquisite music!!

I wasn't expecting my little "1972" poke to elicit this kind of response, and in discovering the reasons behind your absence, I apologize for it.

Locust St. has been one of my favorite websites for years. I've been amazed by your ability to weave writing, music and art together into something remarkable that could only exist on the Internet. I've discovered so many new things from your site. Thank you for keeping at it for so long.

It's unfortunate that Blogger makes it impossible for you to share music the way you do. Please keep the site up, if you can, as an example for what other bloggers should strive for in their work.

With all best wishes

Jim--Oh, no worries. It was a funny poke.

Thanks everyone. I am going to try to keep "Locust St" going in some fashion, just only posting on occasion and w/out Mp3 links, most likely.

This is terribly sad. Locust Street has been my favorite music blog for a long time now.

Just wanted to express my admiration for this blog and dismay about Blogger's recent actions. I will definitely be reading whatever you do in the future.

You're going to get a lot of this:

"Hey Wait! Where ya goin'? I just got here!...Damn."

I've loved the tunes, but I've loved your writing, research and erudition more. Take a vacation or wait till you get inspired again. We'll leave the light on for ya.

I love your site as I love no other. The songs are great, the photos are great, the history is great, and your writing is great. If you never post again, I'll be grateful for all the discoveries you've provided over the years.

But I hope you post again.

sorry to see you go. whereas I don't make very many comments, I and others like me have enjoyed your posts. And where else could I have found Kats new site. Had feared she was gone forever. And now you, as other fine blogs and music sites, will be missed. Wishing you well.

It's been a long, slow walk down Locust Street. Every so often, we'd stop to visit a house (most recently, #1971 Locust St.) to check out a little music, literature, and art.

Turning around to look back, we see all those great buildings. The three-screen cinema house (Hollywood: Rise, Imperium, Decline and Fall). The newspaper offices (The Press)...

The end of the street is near, and we cannot see what's around the corner. We can only hope that in the future, even if the record players in the houses have gone silent, we can still take another stroll and look in the windows.

If you do anything similar, with or without music, please link it here or make it easy to find. This has been one of the best, most evocative sites about Amerika and our recent, ignored history, and your voice has been more appreciated than commented upon. Your talents will be missed if you decline to proceed, but thanks for your efforts to date

May inspiration find you free of the overlords.

Many mp3 bloggers, myself included, picked up and moved to Wordpress last year when the deletions and threats started coming. While Wordpress has deleted a few blogs as well, it's left the vast majority alone so far. It might make a suitable home, if you're interested - and you can 'port over every single post you have here on Blogspot.

If you're ready to be out, though, you're ready to be out. It's sad; this really is one of the finest mp3/music writing blogs out there.

It was a great run, Chris :) whatever you do, don't shut the blog down - please keep it alive with occasional posts. Perhaps you can include links to albums or youtube instead of mp3s...

Thanks for all the posts...I hear you on the "lack of inspiration", as that's partly what led to the end of my music site a few years ago. Look forward to whatever you decide to do with the site.

I'll hope you'll always keep the archives alive — Locust St. rewards rereading, and there's no higher praise I can offer.

Hi, I came back years later (Nov 2012) to re-read the 7 Deadly Sins, and of course found other interesting topics here to look at. Superb work. Thank you!
